you would like more information, 1. The amazing journey of Doctor Faust 'pasticcio' with music by Gounod, Offenbach, Wagner, Marenco and Hervé All these old and dusty books... they cannot inspire Doctor Johannes Faust any longer. He is longing to discover and fathom the world, to experience everything with his whole heart and soul. He turns to the world of Magic and makes a deal with the devil. Mefisto will be his guide on his exciting journey through time and through the continents. Casperl, Fausts servant, doesn't share his masters existential doubts at all. He himself is a happy man: all you need in life is good food, a drink now and then. An exciting adventure full of magic, humour and a touch of filosophy. Most people connect the old story of Faust who sells his soul to the devil to the famous work of Goethe. But long before Goethes time, the historical figure of Faust appeared in folk puppetry. Since the late Middle Ages, many puppeteers made their own version of the Faust story. The Amsterdam Marionette Theatre created a new play, inspired by the original puppet versions. Music by both famous (Wagner, Gounod) and 'forgotten' composers (Marenco, Hervé) plays a central role in the drama. This 'pasticcio' is binded together by means of a small instrumentation: original Erard piano, Debain harmonium and percussion. These three instruments allow us to focus on 'des Pudels Kern': the musical signature which these diverse musical themes all share. With earlier productions (a.o. Mozarts Die Zauberflote), the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre showed how with a small ensemble and original instruments, the intimacy of both music and marionettes blend together. Poetic
music theatre for both adults and childeren (10 years and older) Length of performance
1 ¾ hours (interval included) Five puppeteers manipulate the large, wooden marionettes
and the ingenious moving objects and sets. On tour, the performance is either
accompanied by musicians and singer / actors or by a specially made CD. Because
of the visual and musical character of the performance, the Dutch language is
no great barrier. The performance could also be provided with overhead titles. PRESS

www.marionettetheatre.com 2. Die Zauberflote / La Flute Enchantée opera by W.A. Mozart The Amsterdam Marionette Theatre presents Mozarts most famous opera: Die Zauberflöte (La Flute Enchantée). In the fairytale atmosphere of the classical marionette theatre, the wooden actors take the audience into a world where magic lives on. Mozarts "The Magic Flute" belongs to a theatrical genre called 'magic opera' which was invented in the 18th century by Anton Stranitzky, the director of a puppet theatre. Mozarts opera was created to be performed in an intimate theatre and not for the huge opera theatres as we know them today. A performance by the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre brings back something of the intimacy of the first performances of this opera. The Magic Flute is an exotical adventure; a classical story about the struggle between good and evil. Astory from the world of imagination inhabited by princes, princesses, dragons and exotical birds. Unfortunately this beautiful world is threatened by intrigues, jealousy and vanity. But most of all it is ruled by the extraordinary strength and power of love... A
performance for both adults and children (7 years and older) of approx. 2 hours
(interval included).

(The castle in the air) in 1856 for his own small theatre, a wooden auction hall at the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Kings, merchants and artists visited the 'Bouffes Parisiens'. Here he presented his favorite repertoire: the genre primitief, a naieve and merry theatre. The story is about Jeannot and Jeannette, who are on their way to Paris. They earn their living with dance and song. When they meet a pedlar who displays his products, Jeannot can no longer resist the temptation. He buys a lottery ticket to be able to buy all these beautiful things. As it turns out he has become a millionaire, he seems to lose not only his dear Jeannette, but also his ideals...
A performance for both adults
and children (6 years and older) of approx. 1 1/4 uur (interval included). PRESS

REVIEWS Sensational
guest performance
A marvellous performance was given of Mozarts "Bastien & Bastienne" in the castle
at Sully-sur-Loire. More than 600 people could hardly suppress their cries of
amazement when the curtain went up and they saw the living marionettes which gave
Mozarts pastoral play so much charm. Mozartlovers could fully enjoy the instrumental
ensemble and the voices of the singers who impersonated the young shepherd, the
shepherdess and the old magician. video: www.marionettetheatre.com If you would like more information, please contact us: Hendrik Bonneur, artistic director Frederieke Cannegieter, artistic director and tours info@marionettetheatre.com 00-31-20-6208027 www.marionettetheatre.com or contact our agents abroad: Italy, Ricercare: www.ricercare.it France, Musilyre: www.musilyre.com |
