The Castle in the Air (Le 66!’)<\/strong>
Jacques OFFENBACH<\/strong>
Jacques Offenbach wrote ‘No. 66!’ (The castle in the air) in 1856 for his own small theatre, a wooden auction hall at the Champs-Elys\u00e9es in Paris. Now, this unknown op\u00e9ra-comique can be seen in a former blacksmith’s – the theatre of the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre.<\/p>

Kings, merchants and artists visited the Bouffes Parisiens at the Champs-Elys\u00e9es, Offenbachs own theatre. Here he presented his favorite repertoire: the genre primitief et gai, a naieve and merry theatre.<\/p>

The story is about Jeannot and Jeannette, who are on their way to Paris. They earn their living with dance and song. When they meet a pedlar who displays his products, Jeannot can no longer resist the temptation. He buys a lottery ticket to be able to buy all these beautiful things. When it turns out he has become a millionaire, he seems to lose not only his dear Jeannette, but also his ideals…<\/p>

A performance for both adults and children (min. 6 yrs.) of approx. 1 \u00bd hr (a short interval included).
